This past Halloween, I found out I was accepted into a study abroad program at CEFAM in Lyon, France. From what everyone is telling me, I am going to have the time of my life! I get the same "I wish I had studied abroad when I was in college" from every person I talk to. I'm pretty excited since I have been waiting for as long as I can remember for the opportunity to live abroad and travel the world! But I have to admit that the news was bittersweet. I definitely didn't start jumping up and down with excitement and I was hesitant to tell people that I got in.
I am pretty anxious about my trip. I am looking forward to seeing my old roommate who is in France right now and going on adventures with new friends around Europe. I'm not so much worried about adjusting or not being fluent in French. I know that I will be just fine. Part of the stress comes in when I think about how much it will cost me to live there and travel. It will be the first time in a while that I will not be working. I've become so independent, which isn't bad! But, I just can't bring myself to ask them for help anymore. People who have gone abroad tell me to start looking for a loan now but that it's so worth it. Yikes!
I don't even know what I should be thinking about! Aside from the paperwork I have to complete, I feel like all I need to do is pack some clothes and wait for my plane to depart. I love to plan things but I don't know where to begin! A little overwhelmed but definitely... can't wait!
P.S. When I received my acceptance letters, there was a copy in French. It referred to me as Mademoiselle Sarah. That definitely got me excited! I am so okay with being called that, who wouldn't? I suppose the real test will be to see if I can embody and become a truly French mademoiselle when I'm abroad. Wish me luck!
